Warning about Earny! (and others like it)

April 18th, 2018 at 03:35 pm

I saw that a few of my friends use Earny, so I got on their website to take a look.

The premise is that they pay you the difference in what you paid for an item if the price drops.

Here's the thing, though: when you go to sign up, it gives you this message:
"Earny wants to access your Google Account
This will allow Earny to:
Read, send, delete, and manage your email"

Whaaaaaaat? Read, send, delete and manage my email???!!!!!

I didn't sign up. It seems slightly insane. Wondering if anyone here has experience with Earny?

Here is an article about that Earny sending emails out:
    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/08/earny-a-retail-app-can-save-you-money--if-you-let-it-control-your-email.html

NO WAY would I agree to this. There are other companies who do the same thing.

Thanks for that link! I agree with the article and with you - not worth it, no way!

Now that is scary. Not worth it in my book.

It is A) scary that a company would request that, but B) even scarier that people don't read these disclaimers and allow companies access to these things. And people wonder how/why their information is sold! Facebook/Cambridge Analytical anyone? These companies need to make money (that's what a company does!) and they make their money selling your information, and YOU give them your information. That's just so crazy insane!

Good on you for bringing this so, SO specific example to light!
    And yeah, NO WAY!
