Swimsuit

Well, that's it. I've made my one clothing purchase for the year. According to my clothing spreadsheet, this is all I need. No, I don't need another pair of black snowboots. I don't need another red long-sleeved t-shirt. I don't need another long-sleeved t-shirt at all! I have more than enough of everything.

Some of you asked how I came up with the ideal number of each item of clothing for my spreadsheet. It's not very scientific and it's individual. I looked through each item and saw what I wear regularly. I figured I needed 7 long-sleeved t-shirts in the winter since I wear them every day. I rarely have meetings where jeans would be inappropriate, but sometimes I have to interview for a project so I need a nice pair of trousers that aren't jeans. Two or three times a year I need to look nice for social things; I needed one nice winter outfit and one nice summer outfit. Eight or nine pairs of underwear seemed right (we wash our clothes once a week). We are at the pool every day in the summer (we join a local pool) so I need two swimsuits - but I only had one!

Now I have two swimsuits - very exciting! It fit perfectly and Lands End was having a massive sale on swimsuits. I'm lucky they had something left in my size! I wasn't too picky about pattern, just something that won't make me look sickly (no yellow, no light green, no light blue!).

Now I'm going to evaluate F's wardrobe (a harder task since she is growing so fast!)

the fact that you analyzed your wardrobe and determined what you need/don't need is impressive! i need to think about doing something like that. it would be interesting to see how many duplicates i have and what i'm missing. i think i have too many of some items and none or not enough of others. food for thought - thanks! I'm impressed, too. I don't like to shop for clothes, so luckily I don't have a stuffed closet. I received three long sleeve shirts from Land's End for Christmas. They are my favorite. They will replace a couple that have recently worn out.

While I love shopping for clothing, and like high-end stuff too, I have to reign it in not to jeopardize my other goals.

But don't you love fresh new colors, new styles, how it fits you... Don't most women like to look hot and get something new and exciting once in a while?

I agree, Nika, I couldn't hack it in T-shirts and jeans all the time. Maybe when I'm retired I'll feel differently....

Oh, I so prefer t-shirts and jeans! I did update a year or so ago to the jeans that have narrow legs. I determined (with photographic evidence!) that those look sooooo much better on me. And for summer I have a couple of skirts (cotton, though, nothing fancy). My job is such that the jeans, though, are the most practical thing on my jobsites.

I don't have a minimal wardrobe, but it's not too huge. I think what I found out with my inventory is that I also have too many of some things, and I'll just let those wear out before I buy new...

And one thing I'm not willing to divest myself of is my handmade sweaters. I make about one a year.
