Saved $75!

July 28th, 2015 at 02:51 am

I saved $75 today! We bought a new mattress, and had no way of getting rid of the old mattress.

Options:
- The easiest option was to ask for a "large item pick-up" from the City's solid waste department - they charge $75.
- Find a friend with a pickup (I don't have any friends with pickups or trucks that I can think of, but I was going to put a post on facebook)
- Pay someone to haul it to the dump, but I figured that would cost about $75 with the dump fee
- Put the mattress on craigslist as a free item - that was my first option and best option... and someone emailed! So now the mattress is gone and it's not filling up the dump either.

We (and particularly my back) are loving the new mattress. It's a Keetsa Pillow Plus, and it's not particularly expensive, and it has a memory foam top and feels great. A big purchase, but according to my physical therapist, one I won't regret.

Super plan to give away to help someone and save you money!

Good, fast, simple way to get rid of a large unwieldy, no longer needed item.

noting CCF's post... why do you allow old, stained, holes, ripped, ill fitting, terrible looking garments to take up space in your closet or bureau? If you no longer wear, need, love stuff, it's fast and easy to trash.

I love my new mattress, too! What a difference! Mine was delivered, so they hauled away the old one for me.

Snafu - if I took everything away I'd have almost no clothes left! (I am serious)... But you are totally right - I am going to set aside the bad stuff and see what is left.... then I can add some of the things back in if I need to until I go shopping in November (my birthday is Oct 31 and my mom is giving me money to buy some clothes, also we are going to LA for Thanksgiving and my brother can help me shop).

I you to trash wish I knew what words to use to convince you to trash the 'bad' stuff. In hope of being helpful...
Keep only 2, work-at-home, garden task outfits and enjoy the empty closet and bureau space. 2nd, summer clothes are going on sale Now! Perfect timing to create a capsule, summer wardrobe. It's not quantity that's important, it's using space for all ready to be worn items whatever the plan.

Start small, you know the drill, pick two basic colors and the two complementary colors that flatter you most. Separates are easiest and offer mix/match opportunities. Examine existing undergarment and note what is needed having trashed damaged items. Nothing looks it's best if underpinnings are ill fitting. Terrific undergarment sales in July and October. If you expected to spend $ 75. to get rid of an uncomfortable mattress, use it for needed items.

Birthday money will outfit your fall/winter wardrobe. Start listing what's needed. The whole point is to have an appropriate outfit for every situation. It needs to be comfortable, fit well and present your image to others appropriately. For example, you are a professional architect meeting clients, elected officials and bureaucrats.
